Book Review: Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook

When I was choosing my next book to blog about from Blogging for Books I knew I wanted it to be a cookbook because I had a lot of success with that kind of book my first go around. There was a book about treats and one about booze, those were right up my alley BUT ultimately I'm trying to make better decisions about my health and what better way than to look to some mammas for that?

Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook by Pearl Barrett & Serene Allison

In their debut cookbook, the Trim Healthy Mama’s share hundreds of delicious, healthy recipes to help readers successfully slim down while eating well. This companion cookbook to the bestselling Trim Healthy Mama Plan is just what readers have been waiting for. It features simple, mouthwatering, recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner—including slow cooker and one-pot meals, hearty soups and salads, omelets and waffles, pizzas, breads and more. No Trim Healthy Mama should be deprived, so there are also favorite snacks, delectable desserts, and the smoothies, sippers and teas fans love. With pantry-stocking advice, time-saving tips, and information on how to cook for the entire family, the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook offers a delicious and nutritious way to make trim and healthy meals with less stress—so you have more time with your loved ones.

I thought this cookbook was very easy to get through and I found plenty of things I wanted to try. Of all the recipes I tried, there was really only one that I was kind of meh on. It was good the first meal or two but after that it lost all its flavor and was not a good leftover meal which is important in my weekly meals.

The thing that bothered me the most is that there are a lot of prep ahead items that are needed for their recipes or an item listed is not readily available at a store but must be ordered from their site online. I'm a planner but not that far in advance. If I can't get it in Amazon two days it ain't happening.

I think this book would be better suited for a follower of the Healthy Mama lifestyle. However, I managed to get through at least two of the recipes and one of them was a hit with our family. We just ended up tweaking it heavily, haha!

I received this book free from Blogging for Books for this review. All opinions are my own.

  1. Thanks for being so honest with this review - I dont like recipes that require a ton of prep lol! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. I'm with you - I'm not a planner when it comes to food - give me simple simple simple.

  3. That was exactly how I felt about this cookbook too!! I wish I had known you had to buy their stuff from their site. I would have picked something different.

  4. I'm so disappointed that recipes in this cookbook aren't more easily accessible! Oh well...there are plenty of healthy recipes on Pinterest. :)

  5. My next BfB is a cookbook too. This sounds like it has some great recipes, but if there are ingredients in things that are more difficult to find there's like a 99% chance I probably won't end up making the recipe.

  6. Having to buy items that take more than 2 days to get to me would bother me too.
