Book Review: Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley

Millie Cross knows what it's like to burn for someone. She was young and wild and he was fierce and even wilder-a Chaos biker who made her heart pound. They fell in love at first sight and life was good, until she learned she couldn't be the woman he needed and made it so he had no choice but to walk away. Twenty years later, Millie's chance run-in with her old flame sparks a desire she just can't ignore. And this time, she won't let him ride off . . .

Bad boy Logan "High" Judd has seen his share of troubles with the law. Yet it was a beautiful woman who broke him. After ending a loveless marriage, High is shocked when his true love walks back into his life. Millie is still gorgeous, but she's just a ghost of her former self. High's intrigued at the change, but her betrayal cut him deep-and he doesn't want to get burned again. As High sinks into meting out vengeance for Millie's betrayal, he'll break all over again when he realizes just how Millie walked through fire for her man . . .

I have become a very big fan of Kristen Ashley and each book gets better and better! The books in the Chaos series are no exception and I can't wait for the next one three to come out! That's right, on her website she's promised three more books in the series and I just get so giddy whenever I think about the members of the Chaos Motorcycle Club.

Walk Through Fire is about High (Logan) and Millie who were in love at a very young age. They were the couple every one knew would make it, until one day Millie told High she couldn't be with him anymore. Instead of fighting for her, he took off and made a life for himself. A life that included a wife, now ex and two daughters.

Millie continued to live her life, but it was more of an existence until one day she sees him in a local restaurant and becomes intrigued. She starts visiting all of their old stomping grounds and eventually corners him at a bike rally. I loved how they both fought it for so long and although I really didn't like how rough High was with her in the beginning, he redeemed himself once their relationship actually started and became something else.

You do find out why Millie left, but it was definitely not what I was thinking so I'm always curious to find out what others thought the real reason was.

She eventually meets his little girls and the most annoying thing to me about this book was his spoiled little princess. What a brat!

This gave me everything a Kristen Ashley motorcycle book has given me in the past and more because it was a reconnected romance. Since they had a very long history and were so comfortable with each other once upon a time, as a reader we really got to see a deep relationship because they already had the foundation they were just building a different house on it.

Don't worry, you can get all caught up in the series before the next book comes out and I'll make sure to let you know what it does!

Book Review: Friction by Sawyer Bennett

At the powerhouse law firm of Knight & Payne, winning comes first and ethics a distant second. Leary Michaels uses her female charms to daze opponents, and it’s always worked well—until now. On her most personal case yet, she finds herself going up against a defense attorney just as skilled, shameless, and seductive as she is.

Reeve Holloway has never met a woman as sure of her own sexuality, or as ruthless in wielding it, as Leary is. But he won’t be toyed with. What Leary starts, he’ll finish—in the courtroom, the bedroom, or any-damn-place he wants. The sex is uninhibited, electrifying, and absolutely against the rules. Reeve’s job is to ruin Leary’s case…even if it destroys her in the process and costs him the woman he’s come to love.

I have been reading a lot of Sawyer Bennett lately ever since she published the last couple books in the Cold Fury hockey series so when I saw that she had a book available on Netgalley I requested it immediately.

Bennett really delivers in this intense, drama filled book. She has the competing lawyers in a very personal case sizzling up all sorts of things before they even make it into the courtroom. It was very interesting to see inside the lives of the attorneys as they prepared their cases. Bennett was a lawyer before she started writing romance so I'm sure it's a very realistic view.

I loved the forbidden aspect of this and all of the sneaking around these two had to do. What starts as a forbidden friends with benefits really transforms throughout the book and by the end I couldn't help but dread what was to come of their relationship once the closing arguments took place.

The two characters really balanced each other out and saw the other for who they were, deep down eventually and it was a good foray into Bennett's legal affair series, even if it is the 8th book. That just means I have seven more books to dive into!

Friction is out 10/27 so make sure you get your copy! There's a giveaway going on over at Goodreads through 10/27 so enter to win your copy, too!

Hallowen Party Weekend

Good Morning friends! Yes it's Monday but I had a great weekend so I'm still on a weekend high!! Do you ever get those after a great weekend?

I attended two Halloween events this weekend and I still have at least one more this week, maybe two if I go to a Meetup party by myself.

When I got home on Friday I really only had about 30 minutes before the Halloween party at our community clubhouse so I did a little bit of reading and grabbed my mail which included my October Owlcrate that I haven't even opened yet!

The party was okay, more for kids and their parents but I got a slice of pizza, tried some punch and a cool bag with candy in it so it wasn't a total bust.

Then I spent the rest of the evening reading and doing some design work so I could play the rest of the weekend!

Mom and I headed to Joanns to pick up a few things before we went to a local scrapbook store open house where they have craft projects FREE for customers to make and take home with them. We had a great time and then she dropped me back at my place so I could start getting everything in order for my party that night.

I went to the mall to get my nails done because I've been looking for a place close by and they had the best reviews. The service and quality was great, BUT the mall was a mad house! Kids dressed in costume everywhere and there was some kind of health fair I think. Crazy! So not ready to live by the mall for Holiday shopping craziness.

I got partially ready at my place, took my time curling my hair and then made a quick stop to get socks for my doll outfit on the way to my parents house to get my eyes finished. Luckily my sister was there because while I love me some makeup I am pretty much clueless when it comes to a lot of eye makeup. I shared a close up of this pic on Instagram late and wasn't expecting a lot of people to see it, but the late hour didn't matter.

I arrived at the party just in time to fill my plate with goodies and try their special cocktail. They had tons of great food, but my favorite was this pumpkin dip with dried apples and it was in this cute little carved pumpkin!!

Sunday Funday, right? Well we had to get ready for the ladies recipe night and we made a stop at the grocery store for stuff to make our recipes and found these yummy Peppermint Drunsticks, sooo good!

Boomer thought they looked good, too...but he wasn't fast enough to try mine.

How was your weekend?!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday!! *throws confetti*

I feel like I haven't done a good ol' roudn up/mish mash of random things I'm favoriting lately so I may have gone a bit crazy with the funnies.

Favorite Shoes

I have been looking for about two years for another pair of all black nike shoes and I finally found them when S and I were in Orlando outlet shopping. Not at an outlet, just a regular Footlocker and they didn't even have any in store specials so I told them I'd use the online 20% discount and wait the 5 days for them to arrive. BOOM!

Favorite Song

Can we say OBSESSED? I have listened to this on repeat for DAYS and in the beginning it made me bawl like a freaking baby! I can still tear up if I'm thinking too hard but I'm no longer drowning in my own emotions. I don't know why it gives me all the feels, but it does!

Favorite Book

I'm working on this review for later today and I mentioned it in my books post last week but it's still my favorite read recently. I have way too much to read but I want to read it again, now. There are also no other announcements of when the next books will be out, but KA has said there will be at least three more, thank goodness!

Fav Boozy Fall Drinks

Since I mentioned Fall boozy drinks on my Fall Bucket List I've been scouring the internet for something to try and this list has so many good ones!! I need to find me some Black Cherry Bourbon and they also mention s'mores and booze...what a fabulous combination!

Favorite Funnies

Thank goodness I no longer feel like this all the time.

I mean this may work once in a while but most of the time...fail!

I'm a dog person but dogs AND cats really are just so darn cute and funny on film.

And I'll leave you with this. Whenever I see pugs I think of Steph and the pug my grandma used to have that would eat my crayons. Good times, Chowlene, good times.

Tonight my community is having a Halloween party that I'm going to stop by and see if I can be neighborly. Saturday is a Holiday open house at a local scrapbook store and then a Halloween party that evening so I can't wait to don my costume. I still have a few things to finish up with it, better get on that!

What's on your agenda for the weekend?!

FabFitFun Fall 2015 Box Review

This was my first time receiving the FabFitFun Box and while I wasn't jumping for joy with excitement like the September Popsugar Must Have box, I definitely think I got my $$ worth.

FabFitFun is a quarterly box that costs $50 but if you're a first time subscriber, use one of the many discount codes or my referral link and save $10 off your first box!

The Fall FabFitFun box was worth something like $350 dollars this time and came with things I will actually use which is always good in a box and something I've had to be careful about with the more the pricier boxes.

One of the things I like about this box is the fact that they send you more than makeup, including fitness and fashion items!

Will Use

Hisy Batter Pack - $24.99
I have a different brand of this and I love it!! If I don't use it, my sister will because she's the only one in our family that doesn't have one of these yet.

Glass Crystal Bead Bracelet by Tribe Alive - $49
Would I ever pay $49 for this bracelet? Hell no! I will however, wear it! I was super excited to get the white one! (If you subscribe for a year you get to choose your colors for specific items.)

Tappan Collective Umbrella - $32
Of course I'll use this! This is actually the second umbrella I've received in a subscription box and I gave my mom the other one because I had a smaller one from Gap, but I wish I'd have kept it. While my Gap one is sad hers is holding up nicely and I've been needing another small one. There were two pink'ish shades and while I didn't technically get the pink one, I still like the color!

Gold Radiance Luxury Facial Mask - 2 Pack $65
S and I were supposed to use this during our Orlando weekend and we kept forgetting so I still have them for another relaxing weekend with either a friend or my sister. I love that they sent two!

Not Sure

Doctor D Schwab Flawless Skin Fluid - $39
I did try this stuff once, I think and I'm not one to use stuff like this religiously but I want to get rid of my acne scarring so I'm going to start using this as part of my routine since I have it.

Merrithew Strength Tubing Ankle & Tone Body Tone + DVD - $33
In the spoilers, I couldn't see that they were giving us the tube so I was a little skeptical about this one. I'm too lazy to leave my place and go to the gym, even the one in our community or at work so I want to try this. I just haven't taken the time, yet.

Manna Kadar Lip Locked Lucky Lip Stain - Value $24
This is a great neutral lip gloss for everyday wear but I have a TON of lip stuff so I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of this.

Purple Purse Foundation Tassel Charm
I love that they included something like this in the box!

Picture it On Canvas $75 Gift Code
This will make a PERFECT Christmas gift and I may have just figured out what to get my mom this year!

Jeweler’s Wife $15 Gift Code
I tend not to take advantage of these but I will probably check out the site to see if there's anything under the $15 I could get for free or something I just have to have!

Crest 3D White Brilliance 2-Step System Sample
I tried this, but it was a one time use only and you need more uses to see a difference. Fail.

Interested in trying it out for yourself or a gift? Use my affiliate link and save $10!

Would you use any of the things in this box?

Fall 2015 Bucket List

I've been meaning to post this for weeks, but I wanted to put all of the tasks on one image so I could share it on Instagram and refer back to it as an image. I don't know why keeping track of what I want to be doing is easier with an image, but it just is. I pulled this image from one of the many amazing sites that are available for photos without any kind of attribution. I want to start giving back and sharing photos that others could use for this purpose. Does anybody have a site they contribute to?

Weekending in the Fall

I love all things outdoors in the Fall, especially festivals!

We had an annual Oktoberfest in the town where my parents live this past weekend and it has continued to grow and get better each year! We tried everything from traditional Oktoberfest food (brats) to pizza and shepherd's pie.

Mom and I headed to Tampa for a scrapbook crop fundraiser for Joshua House. A house for abused children that's been around since the 90's I believe. Anytime I hear about these kids and fostering or adopting I think I could take in a kid. Then I remember that I don't really like children so that's why I put my money to good use instead.

This was probably one of the more interesting crops we've been to. They have a drop off zone for all of your scrapbook stuff which if you've never seen all of the stuff that we lug to these things you wouldn't understand what a blessing this was. The fed us pretty much every two hours which was almost too much food. I was full the entire day! Attending this crop really got me excited for the one we're doing in January, and made me want to get more organized so I can get more stuff done while I'm there!

After church I got caught up in a good book, Friction by Sawyer Bennett and then I started meal prepping for lunches. Tried this recipe for crockpot roasted veggies and 4 hours on high was waaaaayyy too long.

Last night my sister and I finally sat down to watch Final Destination 5. Having loved the first two and experienced the others, we decided we needed to see 5. It brought the whole thing to a close, I think but other than that the gore has gotten a lot more gruesome and I didn't much care for the storyline like I have in the past.

How was your weekend?!

Book Review: Loving Lucas by Violetta Rand

Synopsis: Twenty-one-year-old Karlie Augustine is a survivor. She’s smart and tough, but she’s in too deep with a bad boyfriend who isn’t above breaking her spirit—or her body. Luckily, help arrives in the form of a leather-clad, motorcycle-riding hunk on the right side of the law. Lucas Lafontaine is pure muscle, a Corpus Christi cop who ignites something primal deep within Karlie. And when he offers her room and board in exchange for housekeeping, she finally starts to feel safe again.

As their arrangement turns deliciously decadent, Lucas gets hooked on Karlie’s killer body and fighting spirit. He wants to heal the pain he sees behind her eyes, but to protect her he needs to keep her close, especially now that her psycho ex won’t take a hint. Even as Lucas fights his own battle for custody of his young son, he knows that what he’s found with Karlie is real—and that he’d do anything to protect the woman he wants to take to the finish line.

While the story line is really interesting and something I would be drawn toward buying or picking up from the library, there were so many times I just shook my head at these characters.

On the day Karlie moves in, just days after meeting him, Lucas can't keep his hands to himself or her clothes on. What a way to treat a house guest that has a rough past and recently got out of a relationship with an abusive boyfriend. She should be handled with kid gloves and her reaction was perfect, curling in on herself is exactly how it should have been written. However, her actions after that were a little off. Yes, she's looking for love because she's a kid that grew up in the system and only has friends for family but it just didn't feel right because it was fast.

I wanted to like this, the story was there; it just needed some more depth to be believable. Rand has a way of writing, that despite all of these annoying, unrealistic character moves keeps me reading because I want to know what happens. It's so frustrating.

I'd really hoped to see some improvement from the author before she started her next contemporary series but that didn't seem to be the case as it was another 3 star too fake to be believable, instantaneous love story for me.

Friday Favorites - Fall 2015

I'm going to do this in conjunction with my the Fall Favorites Youtube Tag that Jaclyn Hill posted a couple weeks ago, so there will be more than FIVE for but I'm still linking up with the High Five on Friday girls.

1. Candle - Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow

2. Lip Color - NYX Intense Butter Gloss Toasted Marshmallow

3. Drink - I'm boring and drink peppermint mocha (non fat, no whip) all year round, but I did try the salted caramel mocha this year to get the cool Fall cup and it tastes like caramel popcorn drizzled with chocolate. Yummy, but not my fav!

4. Blush - I've never really had a favorite blush per Season, but right now I'm loving Tartelette Celebrated!

5. Clothing Item - Jackets and Scarves

6. Fall Movie - Hocus Pocus, duh!

7. Fall TV Show - Basically put the word Chicago in front of Police, Fire and soon Med and you have my favorite Fall Shows!

8. Thanksgiving Food - Stuffing! I used to love stove top but as I've gotten older there's just something about my moms that is so tasty!

9. Halloween Costume - Of all the costumes I've been, when I was in third grade I think, I was a Genie with a lamp and that is definitely my favorite!

Bonus! I couldn't believe she didn't ask Fav Fall polish because this is when I love having the dark colors on my nails and my go to for Fall is La Moss from Butter London!

These answers pretty much stay the same throughout the years, but I'm interested to see what might be different next year!

What's on your agenda for the weekend?!

DIY Dollar Tree Book Paper Pumpkins

That's right, I bought as much of my supplies for $1 as I could! Some things came from the Dollar Tree or Target $1 Spot or places like thrift stores where you can get books for $1.

These are actually the only decorations I have up this year. One of my Halloween boxes is still up in the attic and I'm busy every weekend this month so I decided it wasn't the year to decorate for Halloween, but come Thanksgiving? Hello, Christmas! *glitter canons*

Carvable Pumpkin from Dollar Tree(I also grabbed a plastic skull)
Modge Podge if you don't already have it, you can get some from Target $1 Spot right now
Book to tear pages out of
Brushes, I used foam brushes but whatever you have on hand is fine
Black and White Acrylic Paint
Total Cost: $1-$8 Depending on what supplies you have on hand.

1. Paint your pumpkin white all over and let dry. I have mine two coats because I used a very translucent white and I let mine dry over night.
2. Tear up your book paper into small quarter size pieces. I probably used 15-20 pages for both items I covered.
3. Apply modge podge to the back of your small piece of paper and to the pumpkin where you're going to put the pieces of paper and stick the two together.
4. Paint modge podge over the piece of paper you just put down and continue the process until your pumpkin is covered!
5. Paint the stem black or brown or whatever color you want, really. I chose to go with black.
Optional: Add glitter to stem! I plan to do this, just haven't taken the time to do it.

Now you have a cute, cheap Fall and Halloween decoration perfect for any book lover! You could do this with so many things, right?

What else are you thinking of applying book paper to?

Orlando Weekending - Universal, Halloween Horror Nights and FOOD!

It's always hard for me to do these weekend posts when my weekend extends to Monday because I either leave Monday off or I don't get to it until after some book thing on Tuesday, or not at all such is the case for our trip LAST weekend to the Panhandle.

This past weekend S and I have been looking forward to it for over a month and it really was SUCH a great time! But first, let's talk about my hair that happened on Thursday!

Thursday after work I met my mom, sister and a friend for pedicures. I was in DIRE need and so thankful to finally have them done. This will probably be my last time for polish until Spring so they have a chance to "breathe" and I was so tempted to get hot pink to match my hair but I refrained and used my go to Fall color, La Moss.

Then I headed to my parents house where I set up the hair dying station. My sister got lost on the way home, she's only been living here for about a month so it was bound to happen sometime and she managed to find her way without GPS I don't even know if I could accomplish that, haha.

It took about three hours total including the two hours I left the pink color in. I would have left it longer but I still had to work Friday. When I do this again, (I'm thinking red in December) I'll do it much earlier in the day so I can leave it longer. I used Punky Colours which will not damage the hair and can be left on for a long time without doing any harm, score!

Friday I had to work, boo... BUT it wasn't too bad until I actually left work and hit traffic! It was bumper to bumper all the way out of Tampa and I guess I've never left for Orlando at 5:00 on a Friday because J said that's how it always is. Gross! #ihatetraffic

We met up at Parc Soleil which is a Hilton Grand Vacation Club which was nice and secluded. Sure, I had to drive through some tourist traffic to get there but that's pretty much most of Orlando, all of the time. I stayed there as part of a promotion to learn about their Time Share options which I am in nowhere near a place to think about but it was something I sat through to get a HUGE discount on our stay. The sale pitch is long, about two hours and they want you to think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Dinner was had at Lazy Moon which I have talked about before and I forgot to take a pic of my yummy slice, but here's one from my very first time and I always get the same thing now. #creatureofhabit

After dinner we made our first stop at Walmart. I'm not a fan of Walmart in general and the lines in Orlando were not fun. Long and I just don't remember waiting in line as a kid! While we were there I saw that the all pink drinks I bought one time were $1 a piece and that's awesome!! Cheaper than a 6 pack and love that you can buy them by a bottle. I've moved on since then and we had to stop at a liquor store for some Patron.

I had to get up at a decent hour to make my 9:00 Time Share appointment and we were done and out of there by 11:30 just in time to make the noon'ish tailgate!! I did not get a pic of my tailgate/game day attire #bloggerfail but it was UCF pink to match my hair!! I did get a selfie walking into the game and then a pic of the final loss.

Since we scored in the final quarter, I was glad I stayed for the whole game even though we lost. Our final stop of the night was a Mexican restaurant that had way too much food, but my favorite food group aka chips and salsa.

We slept in and headed to Joanns so S could get some material for her Halloween costume. I really need to narrow down my ideas so I can start collecting the stuff I need. Then we headed toward the outlets and stopped at Fuddruckers on the way where I tried a buffalo burger and it was delicious!

I bought a pair of boyfriend jeans at Gap Outlet, where the jeans always fit me better and even though we were two hours earlier than planned, we headed to Universal.

We rode a ride and did a little Halloween Horror Nights shopping before heading to the Simpsons to wait for HHN to start. It was a nice, quiet spot to wait and the best part was we got there early enough for a spot at Duff's bar, in the shade.

Since we hat two hours to kill we had a drink, and then we had two more because what else are you going to do to pass the time and get prepared to be scared?

When they finally let us out, which by the way wasn't early enough as there were already HHN only people already entering the park, we headed to the Asylum in Wonderland 3D house because that's the one house she does when she goes and it's typically not as scary as the others. I had no scary moments in the houses, the only time I got spooked was in one of the scare zones and the chainsaws don't bother me at all. I told S to slow down when the chainsaws come because then they can tell you're not scared and she said it's a natural reaction.

This is one of the scare zones during the day and had lots of hay bales people could jump from behind. S did a great job letting me know which side they were going to jump out of and it helped that we were hanging on to each other. Is there any other way to enter a haunted house?

We made it to two other houses, American Werewolf in London and 25 Years of Monsters and Mayhem before we stopped to watch the show, The Carnage Returns. It was a lot of blood and mayhem so as much as I love Sons of Anarchy, it wasn't my thing. We rode the Simpsons ride, which was not air conditioned and not fun. Our final stop of the evening was to be the Bill and Ted show but we missed the start time by three minutes and the next one was 1.5 hours away at midnight so we decided to call it a night.

Our contribution to the tailgate on Saturday was s'mores, but we never got around to eating them so we had them ourselves when we got back to the hotel. Did you know you can microwave the marshmallow on the cracker and the only thing you don't get is the charred flavor?! #moderntechnology

We slept in as much as we could with a 10:00 check out time and headed to Universal to get in line for the Despicable Me ride but it was already at 55 minutes so we're saving it for another day again. Since it's at the front of the park, it never has less than an hour wait and we're just not sure it's worth that hour wait!

We still had a fun time after we got some breakfast at the Simpsons land, I mean look at this huge donut!

Our final ride of the day isn't really a ride but most people don't know that I was obsessed with Twister when I was in 6th grade. I would come home from school and watch the movie everyday. When I played with Matchbox cars, I had a dodge truck that I would pretend was my storm chasing truck. I'm sure it didn't help that we lived in Tornado Alley. #obsessed

We said goodbye to Universal and when I got home I tried out a new flavor of nachos. If I would have added lettuce, this would have been BLT but instead I used what I had, added jalapenos and they were the bomb! I had them again last night. I also managed to get some design work done and got caught up with Nashville on Hulu!

This next weekend, while I have some things planned Friday and Saturday, I'll be staying in town and enjoying family time!! I can't wait!

How was your weekend?
