Book Review: Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley

Before I was introduced to the Chaos series by Kristen Ashley, to be honest I was not a huge fan. I had tried reading one of her other books and just could not get into it.

Well, after Ride Steady I would definitely call myself a KA fan. With over 480 reviews and a 4.5+ average on Goodreads you know that there must be something right with this third book in the Chaos Motorcycle Club series. I always wonder if an author's next book in a series will be as good as the previous, or the first one and it thrills me when it's even better!

The ride of her life . . .
Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy---until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa's pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . .
In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he's the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa's acting, it's clear she's falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker's secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa---or ride away forever . . .

OMG I think this is my favorite Chaos book and I absolutely loved the other two so that's saying something about how this series keeps getting better and better.

Carissa has some fire in her, especially once she ends up with people in her corner and accepts help there's so much she's able to do.

Joker was also perfect with Carrie's son, Travis. I am a sucker for a good dilf and even though he's not his real dad, the kid just adores his Jo-Joe-Kah!

Joker had a hard life, but he survived and thrived in the life he chose and who he chose to be. If he could come out of the life he was born into, and become a great man he is most certainly more than deserving of having a love like he finds with Carissa. I love that they had a history, I love that he takes care of her even when he thinks she's better off without him and I love that this series is not even close to being over!

If I had to find one thing wrong, I disliked how it took forever for Carissa to recognize who Joker was to her. I think it's because she didn't want to see it, because I didn't feel like the author was doing it to draw it out; it legitimately felt like I was waiting for my friend Carissa to open her eyes! I can't imagine how Joker felt, BUT Kristen does a really good of giving us a good idea. (I'm on my second read through, because it was just that good, and I didn't feel quite the same. I mean, I knew it would eventually come and he was okay with it so it took nothing away from the story.)

There's a fourth book in the series that comes out in October, which is far too long from now BUT there are many characters in this series that crossover from previous series so I'm checking those out in between. Get the series reading order from Goodreads here.

Last Weekend in June

I can't believe June is almost over! I always think we have so much time at the beginning of the year, but now half the year is over and before we know it Halloween decorations will be out and the rest of the Holiday season will be around the corner.

June is always a busy month for us, anniversaries and birthdays abound so I am rarely without "something" to do.

Friday night I spent the evening with my parents doing a little bit of nothing. Then Saturday morning I got up and enjoyed some me time before I needed to get my butt in gear and CLEAN. I scored some comfy and cheap chairs for even cheaper at Target 50% off wasn't bad and was cheap enough I was able to order outdoor rug too!

I've been trying to make sure my apartment is cleaned at least once a month so that when move out time comes I'm not deep cleaning 12 months worth!!

Saturday afternoon I was back at my parents house enjoying some sun and starting a new book. Spinster, thanks to Blogging for Books I'll be reading and reviewing this book soon!

When I got to my parents house, my mom had found a gift she bought for me and forgot about, lol. Cute little Birthday mug!

Sunday morning I woke up and realized I was having a slight allergic reaction to the antibiotics I was on so after some unpleasant itching and a quick trip to the store for some additional relief, I lounged around the house. If it weren't for the cookie baking I did and some design work it would have been a very unproductive day. I mean, I did run the dishwasher and a load of laundry so I wasn't a complete couch potato!

As it is, with my head all congested I've been lacking focus and my creative juices just aren't where they need to be. Anybody have suggestions for a sinus infection? I've never had one and not much seems to help with the congestion. I've tried a Neti pot, Claritin, Sudafed, Mucinex Sinus, Nasal Saline spray, Benadryl and a cheap Vaporizer though that and sleep seem to help the most. I still wake up congested but it gets worse throughout the day.

How was your weekend?!

Friday Favs for June

I don't really have any firm plans this weekend but I'm off Monday and really excited to spend some time by the pool reading!!!

1. I saw people wearing these at Universal when we were there and my flip flops are more for fancier wear than comfort, if that makes sense. Plus I wanted something that had more support than a flip flop. The reviewers everywhere loved them, so I ordered a pair and while I wish they went better with all of my dresses, lol I'm very happy with them when I think they match my outfit! Super comfy!

2. I already talked about Ben and Jerry's The Tonight Dough, but I found more at Target, on sale so I had to buy them all. It's very rich, so a couple of scoops is more than plenty. It's nice to have them stocked in my freezer for emergencies.

3. I've been using the doTerra oils I received in the Family Physician kit, but my favorites are definitely Breathe and Lavender. I love putting them on my chest just before bed. I'm still learning how to use the other ones and I'm not as diligent about treating with them yet, so not many results to post.

4. Ride Steady comes out on Tuesday and I'll be doing a full review of it then. If you're looking for some hot biker romance, look no further than Kristen Ashley's Chaos series. Own the Wind, the first in the series is on sale for 99 pennies right now and I read most of these through my library Overdrive account!!

5. The Florida Country Superfest happened again this year and we had such a blast, only attending one day this time but never the less it was still some great Country music! I can't wait until they start announcing if they are having another one and who the acts will be! You can read about 2014 and 2015 here.

What are some of your favorite things from June? What are your plans for the weekend?

Book Review: Miss Match by Laurelin McGee

Welcome to the sexy, crazy, wildly unpredictable world of modern matchmaking, where fixing up strangers is part of the job—but falling in love is an occupational hazard…

He's The Perfect Catch.

Blake Donovan is tall, handsome, rich, and successful—so why would a guy like him need a matchmaker? Andrea Dawson has no idea, but a job is a job. After being blackballed from a career in marketing, Andrea agreed to use her unique profiling skills to play matchmaker out of pure desperation. But when she meets her highly eligible—and particular—first client face to face, she wonders what she’s gotten herself into…

Is She His Perfect Match?

Blake knows exactly the kind of woman he’s looking for—and it’s the total opposite of Andrea. Though smart and undeniably sexy, she is simply too headstrong for a man who’s used to being in charge. Still, Blake’s blood pressure rises whenever she’s near him. How can he explain the smoldering attraction that sizzles between them? And how can Andrea deny she’s feeling it, too? Maybe, just maybe, they’ve finally met their match…

This book started off a little slow, but Andy with her take no BS attitude quickly grew on me. She has a really close relationship with her sister, and even though they're both going through some tough job stuff they're sticking together and looking out for each other.

I wasn't sure what to think of Blake, sure he was very stand-off'ish but it was all a front. When you're the big bad boss there's a certain way you want people to perceive you but as he slowly and accidentally revealed the real him to Andy/Drea things really started to click for them.

This book had such a great love story that blossomed out of the weirdest of circumstances, but could surely be seen from a mile away and I didn't care. Sure, some miscommunication happened to create drama but Blake was able to make things right and that's all I usually ask for in my hero. Four stars!

This will make for a great beach read this Summer, so make sure you pick up a copy of it or check your local library!

2015 Goals + Resolutions Check In

I shared all of my goals and resolutions at the end of 2014 and with 2015 half over now is the perfect time to see how I'm doing!

Personal Goals

Healthier Me
I had lots of ideas for this that had kind of worked in the past, and then I found Fit Girls Guide. Now, I've only done this for 1.5 months and that isn't long but I'm enjoying the stuff I'm eating AND seeing progress. My exercise definitely needs work, and I have 6 months to work on that!!

Read 125 Books
I'm at 81 of 125, so I'm past the halfway mark!!!

Try a New Things Each Month
January - Gasparilla!!
February - Sunrise / Sunset
March - Blogger Get Together Mingle
April - Mardi Gras at Universal and a Concert
May - ????
June - Movie on the beach

Live By Myself
I did it! I moved out and am living on my own. There have been a few tears, but mostly just enjoying the solitude and responsibility that comes with making my own decisions completely. Enjoy? That may be too strong of a word.

I'm pretty confident that I've been and will keep rocking my personal goals. It's the business and blog goals that I'm thinking need re-working.

I originally had specific goals that just didn't fit in with where I was blogging and business wise. Getting sick, moving, feeling like you're in a holding pattern really hindered and made me re-evaluate these goals.

Blog Goals

Post one DIY or recipe each month.
I always have intentions of doing this but these take so much work, preparation and time! Kudos to the food bloggers that ONLY blog about that because it's so much easier for me to tell you what I did last season or what I read than make something and remember to take pics of every step!

Post one video (makeup, haul, books, any ideas, etc.) a month.
Yeah, when my life (and place of dwelling) is kind of a mess it's hard to do things like sit down and record a video. I stopped all of my subscriptions to save some $$$ and I didn't have internet for about a month so I couldn't watch any inspiring Youtube videos, blah! This is still a goal, but I'm not making any promises!

Sponsor one blog a month.
I actually had a sponsor spot booked MONTHS in advance and by the time it came around I wasn't in the right place to take advantage of it. I swapped with Julia recently and am still open to swaps if you're interested, but feel like I need to get back in my groove before I do some more swapping or sponsoring.

Business Goals

Bring on at least one new client.
I still have five months for this to happen, although I ended up doing some side work for my full time job. *taps chin* I could count that if I need to since I got paid and I'd never done anything like that for them before.

Finish my business site.
Yeah, this goes along with re-designing my blog and I just need to feel motivated I think. I still have time to do this. That's one of the great things about a long time to do something you can do it whenever as long as it's done by the time you set for yourself!

How are you doing on your goals for 2015?

Freakin' Father's Day Weekend a Little Bit of Sister

I kind of dropped off the blog-o-sphere last week because my sister showed up very unexpectedly. She drove down from Nebraska!! Sometimes in life there's nothing that will substitute for your family and this was one of those times.

I also woke up Wednesday morning with a freaking Summer cold!! OMG I just got over the bronchitis. Dear body, I'd really like to be healthy for a very long time, please.

1// B&J's The Tonight Dough has been on my radar for MONTHS and I finally found it last week. Heaven in a very small container.
2// My sister fried up some Calamari while she was here, grossed me out but it tasted pretty good for her first time and bonus nobody got sick!!
3// We took advantage of my parents pool a couple of afternoons and I can't wait to house sit for them and get some sun!
4// I took a little book quiz about what genre I am and not surprisingly, I got Romantic!

1// Sunday we did what my dad wanted to do and that included Harbor Freight AND seeing Pitch Perfect 2! It was good, not disappointed at all.
2// I tried Fit Girls Mac-n-Cheese and while it was edible and I'll make it again it wasn't as awesome as some of their other dishes.
3// Saturday before my sister left for the 21+ hour drive home dad changed her breaks, and I had to help just a little.
4// I got some exercise in this weekend walking around the neighborhood with my mom.

All in all it was a pretty good weekend with the exception of this stuffy nose.

Freakin' Universal Country Weekend

I'm always sad to see the weekend end, especially when it's been a great, action-packed and exciting one but there's usually something else to look forward to.

Friday night I didn't do much of anything, just made me some Fit Girl Nachos and enjoyed some Army Wives.

I'm loving some of these "recipes" so much. Hoping to make some fit girl mac n cheese this week with cauliflower!

Saturday after some errands, ugh new tires! Am I the only one that dreads deciding which tires to buy?

So, Saturday after errands and cleaning I headed to Jax where S moved to. We made dinner because we're both following separate plans and that doesn't include a lot of eating out. Then we saw Jurassic World and OMG it was so good! I've always loved the Jurassic Park movies, and this one did not disappoint! Have you seen it yet?

Sunday, after a morning walk, we had a lazy day until we heded to Everbank Field for Florida Country Superfest. We went both nights last year and had such a great time! This year I was only interested in one night and highly disappointed in the lack of female artists over the whole weekend but didn't want to miss Kenny!

Some of the other acts Sunday night were The Swan Brothers, with their hit Later On. They put on a great show, and so did Tyler Farr. There was an act, *cough*Colt Ford*cough* that we sat inside the inner halls of the stadium because it was way too hot, the shade had yet to hit us and I'm just overall not interested in his style of music.

Brantley Gilbert was right before Kenny and one I'd never seen in person, but he put on a good show. Just, not as good as Kenny, or Tim who are my tops!

Overall it was a great night and I'm looking forward to who joins the lineup next year if they have it. The numbers for Sunday definitely seemed down from last year.

Monday it was time to leave early for Universal and we still didn't make it in time to beat the line at Minions before it got to over an hour wait! So, instead I tried Rip Ride rocket and while I ride coasters, I'm not one to go on more than a few a day. We did mostly water rides, so that was awesome! I planned my outfit for water and it worked out pretty good.

Since we were doing water rides, we made Jurassic Park our priority since we figured it would be busier with the release of Jurassic World. It was busy in front of the entrance where people were taking pics, lol. I had to get in on the fun!

Each water ride we went on got us more wet, which was fine because it made the heat so much more bearable!

I still had some remnants of mascara from the concert the night before so I look like a mess but it was a fun day. We ended the day walking through the various shops and OMG they had a pink Jurassic Park hard hat! I wish it wasn't a kids size because I totally would have bought it, maybe, except I'm trying not to buy things I really don't need so this pic shall suffice.

**Originally posted 6/15/15
**Updated 1/30/2018 to eliminate a few things I really feel isn't me anymore. This list was originally made in 2015 just after I saw my 30 before 30 come to an end and I'm just in a different place in my life. I mean, the daring girl that wanted to Attend something like Sturgis or Daytona Bike Week just isn't something I would add to the list today. That doesn't mean in a couple that won't interest me, I love the fact that this is now a list I can reflect on and change. I also completed the list. I only had 1-24 when I posted this almost three years ago, so yay me!!

Do you have a list like this?

Oh Hey, Friday Favs

Good morning and happy Friday! I finally saw The Avengers #2 last night with my parents. We went to see Jurassic World but there was an actual line to get into the seating area and we just weren't up for that so I'll wait to see it.

1// June Blogging Prompts from Kayla Hollatz. I'm looking forward to putting some of these to good use!

2// The Berry posted this video that I believe has gone viral and S sent it to me. I love makeup and this video is great!

3// I'm pretty sure I mentioned this last week, but I finished Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley and I could NOT put it down. It's book three in the Chaos Motorcycle Club series. So hot and so good! Comes out June 30th, so go ahead and pre-order it or request it from your library! You can read my reviews of the first two in the series from April's book post. The first ebook is on sale for $0.99 and both books are only $5 for mass market paperback if you want to get started on the series before the third one comes out.

4// Favorite Song is definitely off the Fifty Shades Soundtrack by Skylar Grey.

5// Favorite funnies!

What are some of your favorite things? What are your plans for the weekend?
