All About the Books - April - late to the party!!

Life According to Steph

My rating system:
5 Stars = LOVED, Blew Me Away, May Read Again
4 Stars = Really Enjoyed but No Wow Factor, Probably won't read again
3 Stars = Bordered on being a DNF (Did Not Finish) but I did it.
Anything below that I rarely give out.

Book reviews, ratings, are all personal opinions. I rarely finish a book if I'm not enjoying it. There are too many books to read and not enough time. I love reading romance, especially contemporary and New Adult. 99% of the books I read are romance genre, so if you're a HEA love story junkie like me, let's be friends!!

You by Caroline Kepnes **** is a book that I first heard about from Colleen Hoover. Colleen is an automatic read for me and continues to put out books that aren't like the rest. Always expanding the box so I definitely stuck this on my TBR list after she said how out of the box it was. I listened to it on audio which probably added to the creep factor and while it was a well written book I didn't love it. It just wasn't for me, but I'm glad I ventured outside of my romance genre for it.

Synopsis: When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.

There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.

As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.

Thoughtful by SC Stephens ***** It's been so long since I've read the Thoughtless series that this was a great book for me. We get to see so many different emotions from Kellan, even with the retelling of the same story from a different side. We still didn't see the best parts of Kiera, and while I'm not one for cheating ever I still enjoyed the story.

Synopsis: Every story has two sides, and in this new book, the epic love story between Kiera and Kellan is shown through his eyes.

All Kellan Kyle needs is his guitar, and some clean sheets of paper. Growing up in a house that was far from a home, he learned a hard lesson: You're worthless. Now his life is comfortably filled with passionate music, loyal band mates, and fast women... until he meets her.

Kiera makes him ache for more. Makes him feel for the first time that he's worth more. But there's one problem— she's his best friend's girl.

Just when Kellan thought his emotional defenses were rock solid, Kiera's indecisive heart wreaks havoc on his soul, changing him forever. Losing Kiera is not an option.

Lead by Kylie Scott ***** is the third book in the Stage Dive series and while I loved the first book this brother is another fav! There's only ONE book left and I'll be so sad for it to end. Jimmy was definitely the one to hate in the other books, but I fell in love with him in this book!

Synopsis: As the lead singer of Stage Dive, Jimmy is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it, whether it's booze, drugs, or women. However, when a PR disaster serves as a wake-up call about his life and lands him in rehab, he finds himself with Lena, a new assistant to keep him out of trouble.

Lena's not willing to take any crap from the sexy rocker and is determined to keep their relationship completely professional, despite their sizzling chemistry. But when Jimmy pushes her too far and Lena leaves, he realizes that he may just have lost the best thing that ever happened to him.

Sometimes it Lasts by Abbi Glines **** was actually a book I apparently skipped over. Instead of giving this couple only one book, Abbi wrote them a second with some gut wrenching heart ache thrown in to make it interested and while I got caught up in the story I could have done without it. More of a 3.5 star book for me.

Synopsis: Cage York has to choose between a love of the game and a love of the girl in this sultry Sea Breeze novel from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines.

After waiting for his big break, bad boy Cage York is finally called up to prove his worth in the college baseball arena. But when Cage’s girlfriend, Eva, mourns the sudden loss of her father, it’s not Cage’s comforting arms she runs to, but those of her former fiancĂ©’s twin brother, Jeremy.

Torn between his baseball dream and the girl of his dreams, Cage must prove he’s worthy of Eva’s love, or risk losing her to Jeremy forever.

Until the End by Abbi Glines ***** is the LAST in a very long series and it's about a couple that is together throughout the series as kind of the "adults" because they're older and have been together longer. I knew their ending, but finding out their beginning was FABULOUS! Then Abbi gives us epilogues for all the couples and that was pretty great too!

Synopsis: The backstory that fans have been clamoring for—how Rock and Trisha fell in love—is the final installment in the Sea Breeze series from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines. And don’t miss the sizzling Epilogue, where Abbi wraps up all the Sea Breeze couples’ stories!

Trisha Corbin always knew how to hide a bruise. With her momma’s boyfriends unable to keep their hands off of her, she had no choice. And as long as it meant the guys wouldn’t go near her little brother, Krit, it was worth it. But her days of dreaming that Prince Charming would ever come rescue her are far, far in the past.

Rock Taylor always had a plan. Through football, he would rise above the life he was born into. A full ride to play for a major college team was within his reach—assuming he didn’t let anything get in his way. But scoring a date with the hottest girl in Sea Breeze was proving harder than expected. Trisha Corbin was every man’s walking fantasy, and she wouldn’t even glance his way.

When Rock finally does get Trisha in his truck, it isn’t for a date. It’s because he picks her up on the side of the road, beaten and bruised and walking to the local hospital. Before Rock knows it, football is no longer his life. Trisha Corbin is. And he’ll do anything to save her. And keep her.

In addition to Rock and Trisha’s love story, this special novel contains the wrap-up stories of all your favorite Sea Breeze couples: Sadie and Jax, Marcus and Low, Cage and Eva, Preston and Amanda, Jess and Jason, Krit and Blythe, and Dewayne and Sienna.

The Nordic Lords MC

After I read Joanna Wylde's Motorcycle Club books I was on a roll and only wanted to read ONE thing. Bad biker boys and how they call in love with their women. This box set didn't disappoint. I flew through them way too fast and definitely see a re-read in my future if I get burnout from other books. This one was actually pretty different from Sons and the Reaper books because there's talk of Sturgis, and females on their own bikes.I learned some new things and that's never a bad thing when you're reading.

There is a fourth book that's not included in the box set and while I hate that they do that, I still had to get it and finish the series. I didn't rate or add it to my shelf when I initially read it so I only gave it four stars.

Point of Return by Stacey Lynn *****

Synopsis: Deceit.

Olivia Masters grew up familiar with all of them. The daughter of the President of the Nordic Lords Motorcycle Club, Olivia always knew she wanted nothing to do with any of it. Her plans were made to leave the town she grew up in as soon as she and her boyfriend, Daemon Knight, turned eighteen.

But just as Olivia begins to accept her destiny, history finds a way to repeat itself.

Point of Redemption by Stacey Lynn *****

Point of Freedom by Stacey Lynn ****

Synopsis: Hatred.

Broken Dreams.

She experienced the gut wrenching pain of grief after her boyfriend, Scratch, a member of the Nordic Lords MC, died on the same night that she told him they were going to have a child.

Point of Surrender by Stacey Lynn ****

Synopsis: Debt. Guilt. Death.

Finn Walker has spent years carrying the weight of his regret and guilt with him wherever he went. When he found his home with the Nordic Lords Motorcycle Club, he quickly learned their outlaw lifestyle allowed him to banish his guilt with his fists and guns and no one would stop him. It was freeing, and now, he fits right in.

Friends with Ryker Knight for years, Meg McNeery turns to the one place she knows is safe when she needs safety more than her next paycheck. When Finn’s past fears and present threats collide…will he finally be able to save the woman who needs him?

Or will Meg end up like his ex, Piper? Buried six feet under.

Chaos Motorcycle Club

I know Kristen Ashley aka KA has a fan club. She has THE LONGEST line at book signings most of the time and she also writes long ass books. I have started at least one book of hers in the past and just could NOT get into it. Luckily that didn't happen with this series, because...hello bikers. This is definitely right up there with the Reaper series if not better? It's so hard to decide since I loved them both! This one isn't complete and the next book comes out this Summer I think, so I'll probably have to re-read them before then, darn. The women in this series are crazy and I loved them!

Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley *****

Synopsis: Tabitha Allen grew up in the thick of Chaos—the Chaos Motorcycle Club, that is. Her father is Chaos' leader, and the club has always had her back. But one rider was different from the start. When Tabby was running wild, Shy Cage was there. When tragedy tore her life apart, he helped her piece it back together. And now, Tabby's thinking about much more than friendship...

Tabby is everything Shy's ever wanted, but everything he thinks he can't have. She's beautiful, smart, and as his friend's daughter, untouchable. Shy never expected more than friendship, so when Tabby indicates she wants more—much more—he feels like the luckiest man alive. But even lucky men can crash and burn...

Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley *****

Synopsis: Lanie Heron isn't looking for love-no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club . . .

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She's too polished and too classy for his taste. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can't say no. And he doesn't regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that's ever happened to him-in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

Hero by Samantha Young ***** was kind of a slow start. One of those scenarios I've read over and over again and then something happened. I've always been a fan of Samantha Young and absolutely love her On Dublin Street series so I was a little disappointed Hero started out so slow for me. Dear Caine, you don't know everything and should listen to your woman. Period. I think Caine rubbed me the wrong way A LOT in this book but he managed to pull out a five star rating so he must have done something to redeem himself. You'll just have to read to find out.

Synopsis: Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

Tangled by Emma Chase **** is a book I tried to start multiple times and just COULD NOT get into it. It was a 2013 Goodreads Choice winner so I've had it on my list for a long time. The dude, Drew talks about himself in third person sometimes like we're his audience and while I felt like I would have been okay with a girl doing that the dude doing it just drove me nuts! Then I watched Hitch and was all like okay, if Will Smith can pull it off I guess I'm okay with it. I'm so glad I watched Hitch because once I got past that little snag Tangled was a great book for me. Sure, there were some misunderstandings that could have been taken care of if they talked but it wasn't the worst. Nope, that happens in book #2 below.

Synopsis: Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything - or anyone - derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

Tangled is not your mother’s romance novel. It is an outrageous, passionate, witty narrative about a man who knows a lot about women…just not as much as he thinks he knows. As he tells his story, Drew learns the one thing he never wanted in life, is the only thing he can’t live without.

Twisted by Emma Chase **** starts out with a bang and then throughout the first half of the book I wanted to do lots of mean bitch like things to Drew. Does he redeem himself? I'm not sure but I had to get to the end to make it stop! There's a third book in this series that's about one of their friends coupling up and then a fourth about them that's very good!

Synopsis: There are two kinds of people in the world. The ones who look first, and the ones who leap. I’ve always been more of a looker. Cautious. A planner. That changed after I met Drew Evans. He was so persistent. So sure of himself – and of me.

But not all love stories end happily ever after. Did you think Drew and I were going to ride off into the sunset? Join the club. Now I have to make a choice, the most important of my life. Drew already made his –in fact, he tried to decide for the both of us. But you know that’s just not my style. So I came back to Greenville. Alone. Well, sort of alone....

What I've come to realize is that old habits die hard and sometimes you have to go back to where you began, before you can move ahead.

TWISTED picks up two years after Tangled’s end, and is told from Kate’s POV.

Until Fountain Bridge by Samantha Young **** is a novella I skipped. It's hard to keep up with so many book series but this is one I enjoyed so I wanted to get the whole story. It's definitely not needed, so if you have nothing else to read or listen to which was my case add it to your TBR.

Synopsis: Ellie Carmichael had a crush on Adam Sutherland, her brother, Braden’s, best friend, for years, and although Adam treated her with proprietary concern he made it clear he thought of her only as a little sister.

Over the years, as Ellie’s crush develops into love, her romantic idealism makes it difficult for her to move on. To make matters worse, as she’s gotten older, Adam’s attitude has changed toward her. His affection for her is now joined by attraction, but his loyalty to Braden, and his fear of losing the only family he has, stops him from claiming Ellie the way she wishes he would.

But one night his attraction is put to the test, and as much as Adam would like things to remain the same everything changes between them in a simple brush of the lips.

Soon lust, love, jealousy and heartbreak combine to force change upon their relationship… and Adam discovers the hard way that life is too damn short to spend it on regret.

Slow and Steady Rush by Trentham, Laura **** was a freebie from Netgalley and should have had its own post but my lack of posting has lead to this. It's a cute little story about a small town that is struggling, in life, in death and in football. The new coach has one season to prove himself, so he's focused until a hometown girl shows back up but she's not the beloved beauty queen. I thought the connection between Darcy and Robbie was great, complete with laughter and tears that make up a good love story. I'm excited to see more from this author.

Synopsis: She lives by the book—and is still searching for her happily ever after.

Darcy Wilde has tried hard not to live up to her last name. As a librarian in Atlanta she lives a fine life far away from the football-obsessed town of her childhood. But when her beloved Grandmother needs help, Darcy takes a leave of absence and heads back to the home and past she left behind.

He knows how to play the field—and is in no rush to settle down.

Robbie Dalton knows a thing or two about painful pasts. After bouncing around in foster care and the Army for years he is finally ready to move on and make a home for himself in Falcon, Alabama as the newest high school football coach. Sparks fly when the sexy new coach and the sharp-tongued librarian meet, but neither of them is looking to make ties.

But when it comes to love, sometimes you’ve gotta throw away the rule book to cross the finish line…

Everything changes when Darcy falls in love, not only with the gruff, protective, and smoking hot man who's sharing her days and nights, but also with the complex tapestry of people who weave Falcon together. Could this be where she belongs - and who she belongs with?

Hard to Come By by Laura Kaye ***** is the third full length novel in the Hard Ink series and I loved it just as much as the other two! This one you definitely got to see the struggle of a returning vet and how he deals with finding and falling in love.

Synopsis: Caught between desire and loyalty…

Derek DiMarzio would do anything for the members of his disgraced Special Forces team—sacrifice his body, help a former teammate with a covert operation to restore their honor, and even go behind enemy lines. He just never expected to want the beautiful woman he found there.

When a sexy stranger asks questions about her brother, Emilie Garza is torn between loyalty to the brother she once idolized and fear of the war-changed man he's become. Derek’s easy smile and quiet strength tempt Emilie to open up, igniting the desire between them and leading Derek to crave a woman he shouldn’t trust.

As the team’s investigation reveals how powerful their enemies are, Derek and Emilie must prove where their loyalties lie before hearts are broken and lives are lost. Because love is too hard to come by to let slip away…

So, what's up next?!

I'm currently finishing up the Gansett Island series and I'll be so sad to see them go. Do characters ever become your friends? These guys sure have and I would love to visit any of the places I've read through Marie Force's books.

Katy Evans, the author of Real released a new series that starts with a book titled Manwhore and I'm on the wait list for that at the library.

I finally got Amy Poehler's book from the library so I'll be listening to that.

I am LOVING that when you finish a book on Amazon Kindle and rate it, you will see it automatically pop up on your Goodreads Read list!!
