All About the Books - February

I know this is sooo much later than I usually post BUT I'm really trying to make sure I'm in bed around 10:00 so I can't stay up and finish posts like I used to. Then, all of the things I wanted to do today took longer than expected and I didn't even do a workout or find 3 guy pics like I had on my list, lol!

So, without further ado...here are the books I read. Oh! I do want to know for future; if I read A LOT in a series, like the Gansett Island series is it good to still list all of the synopsis, covers, etc. or would you rather I just do titles for them? I don't expect to find a lot of series like this that I enjoy because I usually get bored after book 4-5 and that definitely hasn't happened with this series, thank goodness!!

Make sure to check out all of the other people that linked up with Steph and Jana!!

Breakfast in Bed by Robin Kaye is a book I read as part of the first Book Challenge I participated in recently, the Winter Book Challenge. It took me a little while to get into it, but I'm glad I persevered because it turned out to be a pretty decent book and one I would recommend to friends that are looking for some romcom books! Four stars!

Synopsis: He'd be Mr. Perfect if he wasn't a perfect mess...

Rich Ronaldi is almost the complete package-smart, sexy, great job-but when his girlfriend dumps him, Rich swears he'll learn to cook and clean just to win her back...

She'll be happy to make him over, but not for another woman...

Rich is the only guy Becca Larsen's ever met who hasn't tried to change her. She's glad to help him master the domestic arts, but she'll be damned if he'll start cooking in another woman's kitchen-or bedroom...

True North by Marie Force is another one that I read due to the Winter Book Challenge, BUT it was one I either purchased or got for free that I need to cross off my TBR list and yay! This wasn't the first Marie force book I read, it was still great none the less. I really feel like she has GREAT characters in her books and even though this is a stand-alone book I think I would love to see the stories of other characters like Travis' head of security. That's one of the things she is really good at, making you not just feel for the main characters but also a lot of the supporting cast as well. Five stars!

Synopsis: The first time Travis North lays eyes on Liana McDermott, she’s wearing the most hideous bridesmaid dress he’s ever seen. He doesn't immediately recognize the world-famous super model who is attending her cousin Enid's wedding at the country club he owns.

Thanks to Enid's shameless matchmaking, Travis and Liana become acquainted and later embark on a two-week fling intended to be free of emotion and entanglement. As Liana's return to work gets closer, however, Travis wonders how he'll ever let her go when the time comes while Liana considers whether he might be her true north.

Two high-powered careers, two amazing weeks and a love that comes along just once in a lifetime. Is she ready to give up her career for a different kind of life? Does he want the same things she does? After insisting on an emotionless affair, she can't very well ask him. Or can she?

Four Seconds to Lose by KA Tucker is one of THREE books I read this month about a stripper / strip club. I've never even been into one, but I am sorta fascinated by the fictional romance stories that can come out of them. This one seemed maybe a little less believable than the previous books in the series, but I still loved it. Charlie's "life" took such a drastic turn and I would NEVER want to be in her shoes. KA Tucker, you are quickly becoming one of my "pass go, collect $200" authors.

Synopsis: When a gorgeous young dancer walks through his door, a strip club owner must decide whether to follow his rules or his heart in the third novel by the author of One Tiny Lie and Ten Tiny Breaths.

Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.

Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can't get distracted by romance.

Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

Start Me Up by Nicole Michaels is a Netgalley book I was given for an honest review so I won't say much but OMG I loved this book. I felt like I was reading about a blog land friend that falls in love and also has a little girl and is really creative. I'll be posting a full review in March when the book comes out, so watch for that!! oooh, also remember that brownie or fudge recipe I tried recently, it's from this book.

Synopsis: Why do Do-It-Yourself...

Single mom Anne Edmond can handle—and hand-make—just about anything. From table settings to party favors, floral arrangements to nursery d├ęcor, there is no project her creativity and a glue gun can’t tackle. But dating? That’s a whole ’nother story. Case in point: Mike Everett. He’s a gorgeous mechanic and known car-whisperer, a man who can work with auto parts like nobody’s business. And he has thrown a monkey wrench into Anne’s carefully-crafted life...

When you can do it together?

One look at Anne is enough for Mike to know that she’s no fixer-upper. She’s perfect just the way she is—and the chemistry between them works like a charm. Mike’s always been a no-strings kind of guy, but Anne’s impressive self-reliance—and gorgeous exterior—gives him pause. This time, a fast joyride just doesn’t seem like enough. But first he has to convince Anne that he means to take her all the way...

Last Call by Alice Clayton is the final, heh heh book / novella in the Cocktail series and it wrapped up the series nicely. It even gave us a little glimpse inside the head of Caroline's cat, Clive. If you're looking for a sexy, funny read this series is it!

Synopsis: From NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton, known for her “deliciously addictive” (The Book Vixen) novels, this Cocktail series novella reunites readers with Caroline and Simon from the wildly successful Wallbanger.

Simon and Caroline are back for another round of baking, banging, and big life changes. Settling in, but never settling down, Caroline has finally struck a balance between the professional and the personal. As one of the top interior designers in San Francisco, she travels all over Northern California between nook time with Simon.

Perpetual globetrotter Simon has cut his frequent flyer miles in half over the last year, preferring to balance his professional and personal life, as well.

The next step in their lives seems preordained—toasts, veils, and the aisle of rose petals. But when an accident on a photo shoot in Southeast Asia brings Caroline the most terrifying phone call she could ever imagine, she has to ask whether “till death do us part” is a more realistic prospect than faces most couples.

It’s been a grand adventure, and Caroline and Simon wouldn’t go out without the best surprise ending ever. One part sexy, one part laughter, a dash of exotic locales, and one pink nightie, mixed with passion, and you’ve got Last Call. Served with a side of Clive.

Better When He's Bad by Jay Crownover was the first book in Jay Crownover's newest series, The Point. I absolutely LOVED all of her Inked Men books that I was a little scared of starting something new. She did not disappoint. This one has a lot of suspense, which isn't something I've read a lot of lately and it was just what I needed. Her characters still have that bad ass, tattoo mentality they're just solving crimes and mysteries now, lol.

Synopsis: Welcome to the Point

There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.

Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.

Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.

Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.

Surrender by Violetta Rand You can read the full review for this book here, but I really enjoyed almost all of it. The main character, Robyn was a rockstar at making the best of any situation but I couldn't stand her mother's story or involvement in the novel.

Synopsis: Welcome to the Devil’s Den, a Texas strip club where the air is heavy with desire—and sometimes dreams come true.

Ever since her mother kicked her out, twenty-year-old Robyn Gonzalez has been working the poles at the Devil’s Den, saving up to finish college and travel the world. With only her wits and her gorgeous body to rely on, Robyn has learned to be independent—fiercely independent. She’s never been tempted to let a man distract her from her dreams . . . until she meets the dead-sexy Garrick Dempsey.

The club’s new head of security, Garrick had walked away from a career as a mechanical engineer to return to his roots in Corpus Christi. He hadn’t planned on getting to know someone like Robyn, with her sinfully sweet combination of vulnerability and strength, at the Devil’s Den. She acts tough, but only because she’s been hurt. Soon Garrick knows he will do anything to win Robyn’s trust. And if that means surrendering to the red-hot chemistry between them, all the better.

Seduction by Violetta Rand is the second book in the Devil's Den series and I really loved this book. The only reason I didn't give it FIVE stars is because there wasn't like ONE thing that stood out. Bummer. I'm very much looking forward to doing a full review on this the closer to its release date AND starting the third book in the series that I was just approved for on Netgalley!!

Synopsis: Seduction returns to the Devil’s Den, a Texas strip club where hearts can’t hide when the chemistry is right.

The night Marisela Gonzalez rides up to the Devil’s Den on her motorcycle, running from trouble and looking for her sister, she finds more than a place to hide out and work her red-hot body. She meets a guy brave enough to stand by a tough, terrified nineteen-year-old girl who’s been in the wrong place with the wrong jerk one too many times. And he’s ready to show Marisela how a real man treats the woman he desires.

An ex-cop taking over as the club’s head of security, Craig Hanson can handle anything—except the urgent need he suddenly feels to hold Marisela tight. Commitment has never been his thing, but all that changes when Craig finds something too real to deny between them. Sensual and vulnerable, Marisela’s got a scary past. And when it comes knocking, Craig goes all in to protect her—because seduction is the ultimate game changer.

Lick by Kylie Scott is one of those books that came out in 2013 that I missed reading because I joined the New Adult genre later in the game. It's a rockstar story, and a waking up in Vegas story. I think David was a typical bad boy rock star that gets away with more than he should and even when he's married he does a lot of things that aren't nice. The story really kept moving, and I'm excited to start more books in this series!!

Synopsis: Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

Connected by Kim Karr was read for the Winter Book Challenge because the author was from Florida, holla! Otherwise I may not have finished it. The audio book I listened to the girl narrator was TERRIBLE. There was also an over abundance of how hot, beautiful, blah blah either of the two characters were, especially during the sex scenes and I really didn't enjoy that. Plus, what shocked a lot of the people in the end wasn't really needed in my opinion. I'm trying to decide if I read instead of listen to the next book to see if it gets better and to find out what really happened, ugh! Three stars, disappointing because I loved this cover and the synopsis.

Synopsis: What if a ‘Once in a Lifetime’ could happen twice?

Suffering from a past full of tragedy, Dahlia London's soul has been left completely shattered. Happily ever after is a far cry from reality in her world. But, when she is reconnected with her past, the bonds that form are irrefutable.

When River Wilde, lead singer of The Wilde Ones, comes back into Dahlia’s life, the intensity that fires their relationship combined with underlying feelings that have never died lead her to believe she has met her soulmate.

Struggling with confusion as old connections fade and new ones begin, Dahlia's grief begins to lift--but guilt remains. River wants to be the one to mend all that is torn within her.

But with a past that is never really gone, can their future survive?

The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken is the first in The Bet series, but not my first book by Rachel Van Dyken. You don't find out the bet until the very end and I wasn't a fan of all the pretending that went on throughout this book and definitely didn't like Jake but I'm sure he played his role to a T. Travis ended up being the star for me and I'm looking forward to The Wager. ****

Synopsis: "I have a proposition for you." Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. It's been years since Kacey's seen her childhood friend Jake, but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything for the sweet old woman. And if that means pretending they're engaged for her sake-so be it.

But Kacey wasn't counting on Jake's older brother Travis still being there. She calls him "Satan" for a reason: she's never forgotten the way he teased and taunted her. Yet when they meet again, Travis's gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey's more confused than ever. As the days pass, only one thing starts to become alarmingly clear-she never should have accepted Jake's deal . . .

Gansett Island Reads

I'm not going to talk about these separately, but I will say my favorite of the last set I've read was Longing for Love; except the cover, it's probably the worst! It's more on the risque side and it was a nice change from all of the other sweet romances Marie Force writes. These stories have so many things going on, that I've found it hard to remember who is the "star couple" in the later books. While that might bother some, I absolutely LOVE that we continue to get MAJOR updates on all the past couples we've fallen in love with!!

I also absolutely LOVED Hoping for Love because Grace is sooo brave! She has put up with a heavy past and she meets the BEST guy who wasn't even looking for a girl! My favorite cover was probably Season for Love or Ready for Love. The Ready for Love storyline is so tragic, but the best thing comes of it for Sydney AND Luke. Who am I kidding...I could talk about this series all the freaking time.

If you're interested in reading this series, the first book should be free on Amazon and I've been able to read ALL of the other books from my digital library so check yours too!!

Ready for Love #3 by Marie Force

Synopsis: For four of the best summers of his young life, Luke Harris was in love with Sydney Donovan, a wealthy seasonal visitor to Gansett Island. Then Sydney went off to college and never came back. She married another man and had two children while Luke remained on the island, working at McCarthy's Gansett Marina and wondering what had gone wrong between him and the only woman he ever loved. Fifteen months after Sydney suffers the tragic loss of her husband and children, she's returned to Gansett to figure out what's next, and that may very well be a rekindled love affair with the one man from her past she’s never forgotten. But is she ready for a second chance at love?

Hoping for Love #5 by Marie Force

Synopsis: All her life, Grace Ryan was the “fat girl.” Taunted and teased and ignored by her peers, she tried every diet ever invented to no avail. Desperate to change her life as her twenties slipped away, she decided it was time for drastic measures and had lap-band surgery. More than a year later, she's lost 130 pounds and is venturing into the dating world for the first time. During a boat trip to Gansett Island with the new guy in her life, Grace refuses to have sex with him and finds herself abandoned without a dollar to her name at McCarthy's Gansett Island Marina.

At home for the summer awaiting the launch of his debut CD, music star-in-the-making Evan McCarthy is performing at the Tiki Bar when he notices Grace looking lost in a sea of happy people. Evan comes to her aid and quickly finds himself smitten. But the last thing Grace needs after all she’s been through is a guy who “doesn't do relationships.” Will Evan change his ways to win Grace's heart?

Falling for Love #4 by Marie Force

Synopsis: Since he won the Academy Award for best original screenplay a few years ago, Grant McCarthy's personal and professional lives have fallen apart. Abby, the woman he was supposed to marry, is engaged to someone else, and Grant is back at home on Gansett Island helping to run the family marina business while his father recovers from a serious injury. While all Grant's focus should be on winning back the love of his life, pesky Stephanie, who runs the marina restaurant, is working her way under his skin and into his bed. As Tropical Storm Hailey cuts off Gansett Island from the mainland, Grant suspects Stephanie is hiding something big from her past. When he finds out what it is, what will be more important to him? Winning Abby back or helping Stephanie to right a terrible wrong?

Longing for Love #7 by Marie Force

Synopsis: Series favorite Tiffany Sturgil steals the spotlight in Longing for Love as her new boutique Naughty & Nice opens in downtown Gansett, right in time for the annual spring Race Week festivities. Finally divorced and ready for a new beginning, Tiffany wonders if sexy Police Chief Blaine Taylor thinks of her as often as she thinks of him since their explosive encounter last fall. Back then he directed her to call him the second she was officially divorced, but the opening of her store and her unconventional advertising "campaign" have put the island's lingerie queen at odds with the town's top cop. Despite their clashes, when these two finally get together after months of steamy build up, readers will need to keep a fire extinguisher close at hand!

Blaine has been burned in the past by love affairs gone wrong, and he's wary about risking too much too soon. But he quickly discovers that Tiffany's sarcastic rejoinders and bitter outer shell hide a badly wounded heart of gold. He also discovers she's a "sex-toy fraud" and convinces her she can't possibly sell the merchandise without trying it out first... While he finds himself thinking of her all the time, the mayor is after him to curb her sexy advertising and his mother worries that Blaine has taken on another "project" who will break his heart.

As Blaine and Tiffany fight for their happily ever after, readers' favorite characters from past books are back for more island adventures. Joe and Janey return to Gansett for the summer and discover the big secret his mother has been keeping. Evan learns that Grace hasn't told her parents about him. Stephanie's restaurant is ready to open in the renovated Sand & Surf. Dan keeps showing up to "visit" Kara at work, Mac is worried about Maddie's upcoming meeting with her deadbeat dad and a Race Week catastrophe reminds everyone what's really important.

The McCarthys of Gansett Island takes a decidely erotic turn in this seventh book! If hot, sexy men in uniform cavorting with hot, sexy women who sell sex toys for a living aren't your thing, this book might not be for you!

Season for Love #6 by Marie Force

Synopsis: His idea of permanence is the VW van that takes him from one gig to the next. . .

Owen Lawry has made a living as a traveling musician and enjoys his footloose and fancy free lifestyle. But after meeting Laura McCarthy and helping her to land the job as manager of his grandparents' hotel on Gansett Island, Owen decides there's something to be said about a roof over his head and a warm, sexy woman in his bed.

Laura, a newlywed who discovered that her husband never quit dating, came to Gansett for her cousin's Janey's wedding, but ended up staying after she met Owen and took on the renovations to the dilapidated Sand & Surf Hotel.

As Owen and Laura's attraction simmers during months of close proximity, they form a tight bond that will be tested when her estranged husband refuses to grant her a divorce. As summer turns to autumn and Laura and Owen take baby steps toward love, favorite characters from past Gansett Island stories continue to live their happily ever afters.

Waiting for Love #8 by Marie Force

Synopsis: Sometimes the best offense is a good rebound...

Adam McCarthy has had a really bad week. In addition to nearly losing his three brothers in a tragic boating accident, his now ex-girlfriend has double-crossed him right out of the successful computer company he founded in New York City. What he needs is a few days at home on Gansett Island to make sure his beloved brothers are safe and to get back in touch with what really matters—his family, his friends and the tiny island that soothes his battered soul. On the ferry ride home, he runs into an old family friend who's had her own share of heartache, and Adam helps her through some rough moments, sparking an unlikely alliance.

Abby Callahan has come home to Gansett, single once again after her relationship with Dr. Cal Maitland blows up in her face. After two epic failures in the game of love, she's decided this is going to be the summer she busts loose and finally has some fun—and she's shaking things up in a big way! The new Abby swears, drinks, gets a tattoo, sleeps around and generally does anything her kinder, gentler alter ego wouldn't have dreamed of doing.

Before too long, Adam has appointed himself her guardian and is determined that the only sleeping around she's doing is with him. That is… unless his brother Grant is willing to risk his newfound happiness with Stephanie to keep Adam from rebounding with his ex. And what happens when Adam and Abby realize their summer fling has taken a serious turn, especially when he gets the chance to return to New York and fight for the company that's rightfully his? Abby has already followed two men off the island. Does she have it in her to find out if the third time really is the charm?

Another wild summer on Gansett Island is under way, complete with new stories for many of your favorite couples from past books! You'll also see more of Dan and Kara, David and Daisy, and find out whether Carolina has made peace with her relationship with the much younger and very sexy Irishman, Seamus O'Grady. Ready? Set? Let's go back to Gansett Island!
