Book Review: Mai Tai'd Up by Alice Clayton

Mai Tai'd Up by Alice Clayton

Synopsis: Looking for the perfect mix of smart, sexy, and sassy? Mai Tai’d Up continues New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton’s Cocktail series, which began with Wallbanger and continued with Rusty Nailed and Screwdrivered.

The gossip mill in the seaside community of Monterey is churning about Chloe Patterson, the newcomer who is starting a sanctuary for rescued pit bulls. It’s rumored that she’s a former beauty queen (true) who ditched her fiancé the morning of their wedding (also true). And that while she’s not looking for a new man, the good-looking local veterinarian has his eye on her. Absolutely, positively true.

When Lucas Campbell isn’t at the family veterinary clinic, he’s paddle boarding in Monterey Bay. Recently single, he’s definitely not in the market for a new relationship, but he still can’t resist taking a second, third, and fourth look at the recent arrival of Miss Golden State.

Neither Lucas nor Chloe has any interest in being tied down. Being tied up, however—now there’s a thought. But are a few Mai Tais, a moonlit night, and the music of Frank Sinatra enough to allow them both to forget their past? Let’s hope Ol’ Blue Eyes knows what he’s doing.

Mix one part tiki, one part kinky, and a splash of old black magic matchmaking, and it’s time to be . . . Mai Tai’d Up.

I've been a fan of Alice Clayton when I first read Wallbanger first as a fanfiction and then again when she published it. I recently read the companion novel Screwdrivered and by read I mean I listened to it on Audible. Alice does sexy, sweet, humor very well.

Mai Tai'd Up focuses on Chloe who is probably one of my favorite lead females recently. We first met her in Screwdrivered as Clark the Librarians cousin when Viv thinks she's competition. Alas she is not and even just the glimpse of her in that book was enough for me to look forward to hearing her story.

She's struggling with an impending marriage she may not want and ends up leaving everything behind to pursue...something she's only ever volunteered for. Dog rescuing and specifically running Pit Bull rescue ranch. I will say that reading about all of the cool, meaningful stuff she does with the rescue organization had me looking up ways to get involved in my area.

It's working with the animals that she meets Lucas, Dr. Lucas Campbell the local vet along with his dad and a matchmaker front desk clerk. O.M.G. Lucas is just the sweetest thing and he has a similar left-at-the-altar story as Chloe so that immediately created a little *light bulb* in my mind about how this could play out.

Lots of laughs, some super cute dog times, a little sexual tension and even less tears had me speed-reading through Mai Tai'd Up. Not because I needed to review it but because I didn't want to put it down!

She has a Novella coming out in 2015 that continues the story of Caroline and Simon from Wallbanger.

  1. The dog rescue angle makes me really want to read this one. Sounds good.

  2. Having the dog rescue in the book draws me in! I volunteer at our humane society and LOVE animals so yay for that! Do you need to read the other books in the series first?
