S is for Simply Art Studios in Oldsmar #atozchallenge

With a tagline like that, I knew I was headed to the right place for my first local blogger gathering in the Tampa Bay Area. Simply Art Studios put on one heck of a party and after a super relaxing time, I even had a painting to show for it!

This was the sample sitting up at the front of the class and there were a couple more displayed throughout the room so we could always reference what we were painting.

They let you bring whatever food or drink you wish to consume while you are attempting or mastering your artist skills. My drink of choice for the evening was water, obviously but a lot of the other girls were wining it up. Here's my work station with my signature cup with a straw.

The instructor, who is always a local artist, had us do a bit of a warm up. What you see here is an attempt to draw three things on the paper plate, on my head!

The painting selected for this specific class titled appropriately So Starry is such a symbolic painting that I was a little intimidated and definitely did not know how I was going to be able to pull this one off.

Sure, I went to art school but I wasn't a painting major! Not only was the local painter Jackie great with step by step instructions, she even had some easy tips and techniques that to share with us. Like this blue wash technique to cover the entire background in minutes by simply using a damp sponge and some blue paint!

After all of us had completed our paintings, we got together for a group photo shoot! I had such a fabulous time meeting up with other local bloggers and getting to see some familiar faces I'd only been following in the blogosphere. Thanks to Nichole from Casa de Crews for setting up such a fab event!

Have you ever done something like this in your area? Maybe you've been putting it off and now is the time to get signed up!
